Bayh acts to ease small-business lending
In an attempt to get the Indiana economy moving again, Sen. Evan Bayh on Thursday proposed suspending fees and other charges that accompany Small Business Administration loans. The government did something similar after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Bayh announced his proposal, which he hopes will pass before the end of the year, at a job fair he was sponsoring at Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
He said the measures are needed because the turmoil on Wall Street is making it difficult for small businesses to get private loans. Small businesses have created 80 percent of the new jobs that have come to the Hoosier state in the past decade, and it's important to keep them growing, Bayh said.
